Head of Commission for the Presidential Plan for Reconstruction and Development has told the population of Buea that rebuilding Anglophone Cameroon amidst the worsening armed conflict is the beginning of long lasting peace.
The Paul Tasong-led commission during a sensitization meeting in Buea at the Mountain Hotel, Monday, June 29, intimated that a two-year plan to rebuild 206 villages across Anglophone Cameroon was underway.
The Secretary of State at the Ministry of Economy, Planning and Regional Development acknowledged that youth unemployment was one of the key factors that spurred the conflict in 2016.
“We can’t deny the fact that one of the key causes of the conflict in 2016 was youth unemployment or underemployment. The reconnstruction plan will focuss on giving some finance for start-ups to encourage the youth gain employments,” Tasong intimated.
The mission, as he revealed, was to use the 89 billion CFA Francs within the two years to equate the crisis ravaged North West and South West with any of the regions in Cameroon by signifying the lives of the people.
Just as the commission was received in Bamenda amidst ghost towns, the case of Buea was not different as day one of the three-day-long working visit was highly characterized by deserted streets.
Although Paul Tasong opines that the Presidential Plan for the Reconstruction and Development can successively be executed, some Ambazonian activists believe that it is of no essence as the close to four years chaos is yet to be brought to a peaceful end.
