Inhabitants of Buea have condemned what they term unprofessionalism in the military’s handling of security in the crisis ravaged area.
They have accused the country’s Defence and Security Forces of using the ongoing Anglophone armed conflict to enrich themselves.
A victim of such practice who opted for anonymity, told TWIF News that she was one among several Buea inhabitants rounded up by the military in Molyko, Monday night.
She revealed that she did not have her ID handy at the moment of her arrest, but added that even those who presented their identity cards were not spared.
Our source narrated that the military, heavily armed and masked, patrolled with them around the municipality, before asking them to secure their freedom by giving “offering.”
According to our source, a uniformed officer who spoke in Pidgin-English, asked those who had no money to pay for their freedom, “when you go for church, you di tell pastor say you no get offering?”
The six state soldiers negotiated a money sharing deal with a set of girls, who had 5,000FCFA as money for dinner that 10:00pm. The military took 2,000frs and left the girls with 3,000frs to buy what they called “puff puff and beans.”
The military have been accused of raiding homes and collecting valuables in Anglophone Cameroon — a practice which has been linked to Ambazonia fighters, who have equally been accused of kidnapping for ransoms and confiscating property.
