EPL Clubs Fail To Impress In European Club Competitions

Celebrated as the most watched football league in the world the English Premier League has been unsuccessful this time around in continental club football.

Backing home last season two of Europe’s most respected trophies, English sides have presented a shadow of themselves this year.

2019 UEFA Champions League winners, Liverpool were unable to make it to the quarterfinals, falling at to home Spanish giants Atlético Madrid. Chelsea, champions of the Europa League in 2019, were unable to put up any impressive show against Bayern Munich, leading to their defeat.

Ending the league as runners up, Manchester City’s display of form made football lovers to see them as potential winners of the prestigious Champions League title.

This was however not the case as the Pep Guardiola side that eliminated Real Madrid was served a shocking 3-1 defeat by Olympic Lyonnaise in Lisbon.

Just like their Etihad neighbours, Manchester United with the likes of Marcus Rashford, Antony Martial and Bruno Fernandes could not make it past the Semifinals of the Europa League, ending their 23 goals tally against Sevilla.

Meantime, the Semifinals of the Champions League will pit PSG against the young RasenBallsport Leipzig and Olympic Lyonnaise will share spoils with Bayern Munich.

Inter Milan after thrashing Shakhtar Donetsk 5-0, will on Friday face Sevilla in this year’s Europa League finals.
